Platelet-rich plasma is a treatment used in many medical specialties. It is obtained from a simple blood draw from the patient. The sample is centrifuged to separate the white and red blood cells from the plasma. This plasma, which is rich in platelets, is then reinjected into the superficial tissues of the skin. Platelets are cell fragments packed with growth factors and a multitude of nutrients. PRP reactivates collagen synthesis and the skin’s natural regeneration mechanisms. It also works on the scalp by stimulating hair follicles, strengthening existing hair, and slowing hair loss. As it comes from the patient’s own body, its tolerance and safety are maximized.

PRP injections are intended for patients who wish to improve their hair by increasing density and reducing hair loss. They are also indicated to enhance skin quality on the face, neck, décolleté, or hands using a safe, minimally invasive aesthetic medicine method. Platelet-rich plasma helps correct:

PRP injections are performed on an outpatient basis at Leman Aesthetic Clinic. First, a blood sample is taken, just like a standard blood test. The sample is centrifuged to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the red and white blood cells. The PRP is then injected by the surgeon into the superficial tissues of the areas to be treated. The procedure takes about 15 to 30 minutes. Performed with a micro-needle, it is only slightly uncomfortable. After the session, which lasts about 30–40 minutes in total, you can go home.

PRP treatment is a simple, non-surgical method that delivers very satisfying results. Effects appear gradually over four to six weeks and continue to improve for up to six months — the time needed for the body to regenerate naturally. The face appears rejuvenated and the complexion brighter. Wrinkles, spots, and small scars fade, leaving the skin smoother, firmer, and more radiant. Regarding hair loss, it visibly decreases after the first PRP hair injection. Scalp microcirculation is stimulated and hair follicles are energized. The life cycle of the hair is extended.

A PRP treatment protocol usually includes three sessions spaced one month apart to initiate the process. Results last for several months. One maintenance session per year or every two years helps maintain lasting effects.

Redness and slight swelling at the injection site are very common. Harmless, they disappear spontaneously in about two days. Swelling of the lower eyelid may also occur when injections are performed to treat dark circles. PRP treatment allows for a quick return to normal social life.

Because platelet-rich plasma is derived from the patient’s own blood, it is very well tolerated and the risk of complications is extremely low. However, there are a few contraindications:

• Taking certain medications (anticoagulants, corticosteroids, etc.)
• Certain autoimmune diseases
• An active skin lesion on the treatment area
• Uncontrolled chronic conditions
