Skin Lesions
Skin lesions are abnormalities of the skin that can be benign or malignant. Whether they are moles, cysts, or more serious problems, their identification and treatment are essential to preserve your health and minimize aesthetic sequelae. At Leman Aesthetic Clinic, we offer a range of medical and surgical solutions tailored for each type of skin lesion.
What is a skin lesion?
A skin lesion is an area of the skin that shows a visible abnormality, whether in its texture, color, or shape. They can be congenital, appear over time, or be caused by external factors such as UV exposure, trauma, or infection. Skin lesions can be benign, like moles, or malignant, like skin cancers.
What are the different types of skin lesions?
Skin lesions encompass all defects that can appear on or under the skin. They are therefore very varied. Those often of interest to the cosmetic surgeon are:
- Moles or nevi: These are clusters of pigmented cells (melanocytes) in the skin. They are benign spots or growths but require regular monitoring as they can develop into melanoma
- Skin cancers: These are malignant cell proliferations. Basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma are the most common skin cancers. Often caused by excessive sun exposure, they are generally localized and not very aggressive. Treatment primarily involves tumor excision to prevent its spread
- Benign non-pigmented skin lesions: Such as keratoses, cysts, or lipomas
When to opt for dermatological surgery to remove a skin lesion?
Dermatological surgery allows for:
- Diagnosing a skin disease (inflammatory, autoimmune, cancerous, infectious)
- Treating a pathology
- Repairing a skin lesion caused by an accident or disease
Whether for a simple mole or a malignant skin lesion, our specialists apply their skills in reconstructive plastic surgery to remove these lesions with minimal aesthetic sequelae. At the skin level, there is no small surgery because every incision results in a permanent, potentially unsightly scar.
How is a skin lesion removal procedure performed at Leman Aesthetic Clinic?
Duration: 0.5-2 hours
Anesthesia: Local +/- sedation
Hospitalization: Not required
Time off work: 0-7 days
The removal of a skin lesion at Leman Aesthetic Clinic is performed on an outpatient basis. The duration of the intervention varies from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the size and complexity of the lesion. It is performed under local anesthesia, with or without sedation, depending on the patient’s needs. Time off work can be recommended for up to 7 days, depending on the nature of the surgery, the location of the lesion, and the professional activity performed.
Recovery after surgical excision of a skin lesion
The recovery period is generally short. It is essential to follow the surgeon’s post-operative recommendations to promote optimal healing. To avoid complications and preserve the aesthetic appearance of the scar, it is advised to avoid sun exposure for the first few weeks and protect it with a high SPF sunscreen for at least one year. A healing cream and massages may be prescribed to soften the scar.
How much does skin lesion removal cost at Leman Aesthetic Clinic?
The cost of excising a skin lesion depends on several factors, including the size and location of the lesion, as well as the complexity of the intervention. A personalized quote will be provided during the initial consultation. Your health insurance will cover your consultations and surgical procedures for lesions with disease characteristics, suspicious or malignant lesions.
