Brachioplasty

Brachioplasty is a cosmetic procedure aimed at firming and reshaping the arms. Two main techniques are used: liposuction and arm lifting. They help to correct the volume and sagging skin on the inner side of the upper limbs. This surgery restores tone and harmony to the arms.

Presentation

What is brachioplasty?

Two techniques, alone or combined, are available to improve the aesthetic appearance of the arms. These are liposuction (with or without Renuvion®) and arm lifting or brachioplasty.

In most cases, when the skin is thin and loose, an arm lift will tighten the skin and remove excess skin. Liposuction, combined with the arm lift, will help reshape the new form of the arms.

However, liposuction without being accompanied by a lift is done only if the skin is very toned, which is quite rare on the inner side of the arms. In cases where the skin is slightly loose, it is possible to combine liposuction with Renuvion®. If the laxity is more significant, an arm lift (brachioplasty) will be the best solution.

Indications

Do I qualify for a brachioplasty?

The upper part of the arms is one of the body areas that are not constantly in view (easily hidden in clothing). Firm arms with fine contours contribute to the general aesthetics of the body. However, even young and athletic people can suffer from loose skin and/or fat deposits on the inner side of the arm, especially on the upper part.

Excess skin, tissue stretching, and fine lines appear on the upper third of the arms also after massive weight loss or in case of connective tissue weakness (aging, hereditary). This not only causes aesthetic discomfort but can also lead to friction of the arm against the chest with skin irritation/maceration during daily activities or physical exercises.

Brachioplasty is therefore intended for patients with loose skin and/or localized fat excess on the inner side of the arms.

Pre-treatment

What to know before getting a brachioplasty

An in-depth consultation with a surgeon is essential before performing brachioplasty. They will assess the condition of your skin, the amount of fat to be removed, and analyze your expectations in order to establish a personalized care plan adapted to your needs.

Procedure

Arm Lift : Procedure at Leman Aesthetic

Clinic Duration: 1-3 hours
Anesthesia: Sedation or general
Hospitalization: Not required
Time off work: 10-14 days

Brachioplasty is performed under sedation or general anesthesia. The surgeon begins by marking the areas to be treated while standing before moving to the operating room. Liposuction will be performed if necessary before making incisions to remove excess fat. Depending on your morphology, a single scar at the axillary crease may be proposed. However, if the laxity is too significant, a vertical or L-shaped scar extending along the inner side of the arm to varying lengths up to the elbow may be proposed. The incisions are then carefully sutured to minimize scarring. The procedure lasts between 1 to 3 hours and does not require hospitalization.

Recovery

Recovery after Brachioplasty

Post-operative pain is moderate and relieved with analgesics. Recovery after brachioplasty requires some precautions to ensure optimal healing. Wearing a compression garment is recommended to reduce swelling and support the tissue against the muscle plane. Arm movements should be limited during the first few days, and a work stoppage of one to two weeks will be prescribed depending on the professional activity. Intense physical exercises are prohibited for about 2-3 months.

Results

Results and expectation after an arm lift?

Brachioplasty gives very satisfactory results with firmer, smoother arms and finer contours, harmonizing the overall body silhouette. The excess skin and fat are eliminated, providing a younger and more toned profile. The scars, though present, fade over time and become less visible. Patient satisfaction is generally very high, with a boost in self-confidence and greater ease in wearing sleeveless clothing.
